TOPIC: Indian culture Heritage will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times.
- Cultural heritage does not end at monuments and collections of objects.
- It also includes traditions or living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed onto our descendants.
- Such as- oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe or the knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts.
- The 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage entered into force in 2006.
- Purpose of the Convention-
1.To safeguard the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
2.To ensure respect for the ICH of the communities, groups and individuals concerned.
3.To raise awareness at the local, national and international levels of the importance of the ICH, and of ensuring mutual appreciation thereof;
4.To provide for international cooperation and assistance.
- There are 169 state parties to the convention.
- The Intangible Cultural heritage (ICH) List was established in 2008.
- Two lists are compiled-
- The longer Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
- The shorter List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding- India has no elements on this list so far.
- Register of Best Safeguarding practices: It contains the programs, projects and activities that best reflect the principles and the objectives of the convention.

- Tradition of Vedic Chanting (2008)
- Kutiyattam, Sanskrit theatre (2008)
- Ramman, religious festival and ritual theatre of the Garhwal Himalayas, India (2009)
- Novruz, Nowrouz, Nooruz, Navruz, Nauroz, Nevruz (2009)
- Mudiyettu, ritual theatre and dance drama of Kerala (2010)
- Kalbelia folk songs and dances of Rajasthan (2010)
- Chhau dance (2010)
- Buddhist chanting of Ladakh: recitation of sacred Buddhist texts in the trans- himalayan Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir, India (2012)
- Sankirtana, ritual singing, drumming and dancing of Manipur (2013)
- Traditional brass and copper craft of utensil making among the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru, Punjab, India (2014)
